NWBRV Named Champion in Action

On Monday, July 9, 2012, Citizens Bank and NBC 10 named NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley (NWBRV) their latest Champion in Action.

NBC 10 general manager, Vic Vetters, and Citizens Bank RI President, Ned Handy, presented the organization with the award and a check for $35,000 in a brief ceremony that highlighted NWBRV's work in neighborhood revitalization noting that the organization's work went well beyond bricks and mortar into programs for youth, financial education, and economic development- all of which make neighborhoods stronger, better places to live.

Joe Garlick, NWBRV's Executive Director, thanked both groups for their commitment to the organization siting that while the organization was receiving a grant for $35,000, Citizens Bank had invested over $35 million in the organization over the past 10 years.  The organization will also receive executive coaching, volunteers, and free public relations support on NBC 10.

NWBRV first became a Champion in 2003 for its work in Housing and was renamed this year under a new program change allowing repeat winners.  They are the first Champion to be named twice under the program changes.
